The Garvin Library at Blue Mountain Union School
The purpose of the Blue Mountain Library is to:
  • enrich and support the curriculum
  • to provide material for students' informational needs
  • to serve as a base for research
  • to stimulate free reading
  • to provide an environment where students can learn to locate, analyze, evaluate, interpret, synthesize, and communicate information and ideas.

You can look it up!

You find out what materials the library
holds by looking them up here!

Quality Information from
the Vermont Online Library (VOL)

The Blue Mountain library provides access to millions of high-quality documents through the Vermont Online Library. These include full text versions of most of the magazines and journals you are familiar with, and hundreds of others as well.

It can be accessed at school or from any remote location.  It does require a password, which can not be posted here.  Please see Mrs. Davie if you do not have the password yet..

Access the Vermont Online Library here.

Citations Made Easy!

Information from the Vermont Online library comes with built-in bibliographic citations, but for information gathered from other sources, you might like to click here to use the EasyBib website.  Don't forget to use the MLA 8 version!  The Purdue Online Writing Lab is a good site for help in writing and using citations.

Books from All Over Vermont
If you would like to read a book which we don't have here at Blue Mountain, we can borrow it from another library.  Click here to look at the Department of Libraries' statewide catalog.  Unless it's really rare, if you see it, we can borrow it!

Interesting Reading
Online

The Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Award Program is designed to promote the reading of quality literature in Vermont students in grade four through eight.  Each year, students throughout Vermont read from a list of thirty titles and vote on their favorite.

Click to check out this year's list and find more info about the award, or to access the Canfield Fisher blog, and see what the students think of it!
